Philosophy

I received my doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, MO in 1994. My first degree was a B.S. in Nutrition, and this gave me an understanding of one of the three sides that comprise the triangle of health, namely, Mind, Structure, and Chemistry. This three sided approach has roots in many thought systems including Traditional Chinese Medicine (shen, chi, and jing) and in Ayurveda (rishi, devata, and chandas). I take the Hippocratic Oath very seriously; of "first do no harm" and "go to the cause - rather than treat the symptoms of disease."

My "search for the Holy Grail in natural healing" has led me to study many techniques and methodologies. I am driven by seemingly conflicting yet complementary perspectives. Western mind strives to find the cause that created the effect. This never ending paradox can lead one to go deeper and deeper and layer by layer into the inner workings of the body and its complicated manifestation of disease process in the search for the ultimate "truth" of the cause of causes.

The opposing paradigm is the Eastern or Oriental mind and its observation of patterns. The cause is not as important as the big picture or the all encompassing environment (milieu) that makes up every aspect of the patient's life – food, stress, emotions, thoughts, intent, habits, structure, consciousness, etc. All of these factors, together, make up the warp and woof of the painting of the life of the person. This whole, that is greater than the sum of the parts, is the substantial focus.

So which perspective is correct? From a relative point of view, both of them are. From a unified field perspective, both are insignificant and are just thought systems that reflect a limited state of awareness. On the one hand, thoughts are things. On the other, thoughts are illusions, vapors, limited creations that hide our true nature.

What is our true nature? Our true nature is the Tao, Wholeness, the One, Pure Energy, the Unified Field of Pure Awareness, the Kingdom of Heaven that is within, etc. There are many paths up the Mountain and they all lead to the same place. It is a pathless path, a goal without a goal, resulting in the disappearance of the universe and the field of duality. This is realizing we are one with everything; that we are a being of Light; the peace that surpasses understanding; Silence; no thought; pure love; being totally in the moment, the here and now; the eternal. Many are called, few are chosen. To most, this is an illusion; but, to a few, this is the only thing that is real.

So what does healing look like? Is it achieved through diligent striving for the "cause" finally arriving at the raison d'être of disease and defeating it? Does it come from astute observation of the totality of a person's pattern of living in all its complexity; weighing all factors and assessing where the imbalance is and what will bring it into harmony? Or, is healing ultimately Divine Grace, a Mystery, pure Magic, Wonder, Perfection where healing can come about in a nano second?

All healing comes from the Self. Only we can heal ourselves aided by Divine Grace. We are responsible for what happens to us; no one else. No one can make us happy. When we blame or judge others for our situation then we are not in truth and are in ego. Ego separates us from the Wholeness of the Unified Field or God; however you conceive It, Him or Her to be. Every thought draws us more into the illusion that we are the thought. Thoughts are self-perpetuating; they are universes unto themselves. But, they are not who we really are.

We heal ourselves by being a witness to the process and not judging it. By being the watcher and going deeper into our thought process and observing it, we see where our discontent comes from. We see that it is our unfulfilled desires and expectations and our open wounds that cause our anger with others. What you become conscious of, you can heal. Simply, by being conscious, you heal the wound and retire the desire. Because, only you can love you and thereby come to that place where you love everyone, seeing only the good qualities, and seeing the Face of God in everyone else's face.

This is true healing and a healer's job is to remind you of what you already know. Namely, that you are your own healing, simply by turning awareness back onto itself; in other words, the Self-Referral principle. A healer may have a few techniques in his tool box to help, and combined with Grace, miracles can happen. And, healing can happen in an instant.

I have come to realize that there are physical and spiritual (or energetic) laws and that they are separate but overlapping systems. There are those who believe that consciousness based technologies, or thought alone, can transform the body and cure disease or imbalance. And there are others who believe that only physical means can affect physical manifestations of disease.

Which is correct? Well, as is often the case with diametrically opposed perspectives, they are different sides of the same coin. Both are correct but must be kept in proper perspective. One should not rely only on spiritual means to affect physical change. Sometimes, thoughts alone cannot take the dents out of our car. We have to go to the body shop and have them physically removed. Likewise, physical modalities are not always appropriate for getting to the cause of correcting an imbalance that is thought based in nature. The spiritual can affect the material; the material can affect the spiritual.

As I have walked up the mountain, I have found many useful approaches and all of them have contributed to my understanding and growth. The latest approach of NCR, or NeuroCranial Restructuring, is the most profound and precise method yet, leading to permanent and cumulative beneficial results. As a student of Rolf Structural Integration, Chiropractic, Applied Kinesiology, Sacral Occipital Technique, B.E.S.T., Quantum Reflex Analysis, Yuen Method, Advanced Biostructural Correction, BioCranial Therapy, CranioSacral Therapy, Acupuncture, and many others; I have been led from one causal system to another. This layer by layer journey has led me to see that the brain is the ultimate physical cause in the body. It is the organ of transcendence; the neurophysiological basis of consciousness; the bio-computer that controls all functions in the body; and the last frontier of exploration for human potential. As a doctor of manual medicine, I see the container of the brain, or skull, as the most important physical factor limiting health and human evolution. NCR is the key that unlocks this potential.

If Radiant Health and Ageless Living is our goal then it should also be our operating principle. It is not only a vision, an ideal, a paradigm but the means and the method of how we should live our lives moment to moment. After a while, the path becomes pathless. Your sadhana (spiritual practice) goes from being a limited part of your life to your entire life. More than a thousand years ago a Chinese Zen master wrote:

"Magical power, marvelous action!

Chopping wood, carrying water…"

The massive movement of the oceans can be felt in the pulse on the wrist. The vastness of the universe is found within oneself. Life's perfection shows up in our mundane lives. What we seek we have already found. Radiant Health and Ageless Living is not only within our grasp but is who we are. "As ye have faith, so shall your powers and blessings be; this is the balance…"
